Rising need, steadfast services

Food For All stands at a challenging crossroads. Federal cuts have sharply reduced the supply of free government food, even as need continues to climb. According to the Capital Area Food Bank’s 2025 Hunger Report, food insecurity now affects 36% of DMV residents—up from 32% just two years ago. We feel that impact every week, with client referrals up by 20%.  At the same time, a new challenge has emerged: fear of the streets. Since September, FFA has been delivering groceries to individuals too afraid to step outside due to the risk of harassment or worse. Each week, our volunteers bring food—and peace of mind—to fifteen such households. Despite these challenges, FFA continues to deliver healthy groceries to 200 homebound households every week, ensuring that kindness reaches every doorstep.

Promoting social health

FFA’s Food as Medicine (FAM) Wellness Circle nurtures health on three levels—physical, mental, and social. This month, FFA brought the social health component to life by inviting FAM members to volunteer alongside our team. Many are eager to give back in meaningful ways: Veronica now calls clients weekly to remind them of upcoming deliveries, while Kitty and Connie prepare packed lunches for unhoused neighbors. These shared acts of service strengthen social connection and deepen the bonds amongst all members of the FFA community.
