Meeting the Moment

FFA’s intake team reports that clients, both old and new, are anxious about the drop in SNAP benefits and what it will mean for their health and financial stability. For many, food has become a source of daily worry rather than comfort.

Thankfully, the response from our community has been inspiring. New volunteers are joining every week, and donors are stepping forward to help us meet the moment.

As our year-end fundraising campaign launches next week, we invite you to join this groundswell of care. Together, we can ensure that no one in our city is left hungry or unseen.

Hack4Impact Streamlines FFA Operations

Over the past year, Hack4Impact, a student-run software organization at the University of Maryland, has dedicated a team of 23 designers and engineers—mentored by a Microsoft software engineer—to build a new client management database for Food For All DC.  Now in its testing phase, the system replaces a 20-year-old platform and will streamline operations from start to finish, helping FFA serve thousands of D.C. residents more efficiently each month.  Team members have also volunteered at FFA to ensure their design meets the real, day-to-day needs of staff and programs. “Working on the Food For All DC project has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my time at UMD,” shared Chris, the product manager.

Optum Consulting
This month, Optum Consulting wrapped up a six-week pro bono partnership with FFA. Five talented consultants shared strategic insights on brand differentiation, resource development, and building deeper relationships with donors and volunteers.

Their recommendations will help sharpen our public presence—watch for new updates across our website and social media soon!
This collaboration serves as a good example of how the for-profit and nonprofit sectors can join forces to amplify community impact.

Food as Medicine Team Grows

FFA is thrilled to welcome its first dietitian to the Food as Medicine (FAM) team! Estefany brings a decade of experience and will be an invaluable resource in guiding FAM clients toward their optimal diets. We also congratulate her on completing the Marine Corps Marathon this month—way to go, Estefany!

Volunteer Transition

Last month, we said goodbye to Sam, a beloved member of the kitchen crew and a supportive presence in the garden. Before leaving for a new chapter in a new town, she shared these parting words:

Volunteering at FFA was one of the greatest decisions I have ever made in my life. I sought out opportunities to volunteer at the height of my disappointment with the direction our country was heading—and while no single act can undo all catastrophe, the act of caring for your community is the best first step.

Volunteer Positions Available

FFA is entirely volunteer-run and always welcomes support—especially from individuals with specialized skills. We currently have several urgent volunteer needs:

  • Executive Assistant to support the behind-the-scenes operations of FFA
  • Drivers to deliver food on Thursday, Friday or Saturday
